Our Story

Branches was opened in 1985 as a Christian response to the growing injustice in the world and the ever increasing influence that global warming is having on our planet. From flooding to drought - it is the poorest communities and their children who suffer the most. Branches aims to help the most vulnerable.

The name Branches comes from the words of Jesus of Nazareth in the Gospel of St John.  Jesus said, "I am the Vine you are the branches".  Our aim is to be a fruitful branch of this amazing Vine.

What are the Aims of Branches?

The Board of Branches gives all its profits to make a difference in the world.  Branches made the original donation to start the Vine Trust, and today we support many other international, national and local charities.  The shop continues to give 50% of all its profit to the Vine Trust; visit their website to find out more about their global work.

In addition to generating charitable funds the shop seeks to trade ethically, creating a safe and welcoming space in the market place for customers to browse without being rushed. Finding the right gift, or the right card, knowing that the profits are going to help a needy cause, gives the gift greater meaning.

We also aim to value the many gifts all our volunteer staff bring to the shop.
